I have been trying granola recipes on and off for thirty years. (Yes, as my son would say I am old! But I started this obsession before I was married so I am not that old.)
A couple of years ago my daughter gave me a recipe for granola bars. As can happen, the recipe didn't work for me as granola bars but it came out crumbly instead, which just means that I am not incompetent but that I am a genius because now I have fabulous granola.
Of course, I have tweaked the recipe to fit my likes as I would expect you do to as well.
My only real complaint with this recipe is that I have a hard time keeping myself from sitting down and devouring the whole think in one sitting.
Here is what I love about this recipe! The cooking time is reduced dramatically from all the other recipes I have tried.
Start by mixing your dry ingredients (oats, wheat germ, seeds and nuts) on a foil lined cookie sheet.

Start by mixing your dry ingredients (oats, wheat germ, seeds and nuts) on a foil lined cookie sheet.
And then toast them in a 400 degree oven for 10 mins.
While your dry ingredients are toasting in a small sauce pan you bring your wet ingredients to a boil (honey, agave syrup, almond butter, butter,) adding the vanilla after it has boiled and is starting to cool. Salt is also added here.
Combine the two mixtures into a mixing bowl and then pour it back onto your foil lined cookie sheet to cool.

I like to break it up every once in awhile, while it is cooling.
You really will enjoy this sweet crunchie goodness not only for the ease in making it but for the great flavor!
