With all of the fruit and vegetable carvings that I have been doing I sometimes look at them and say to myself "So now what?" "Why am I doing this?"
So I have been trying to make my carvings useful and figure out a purpose for them.
Sunday dinner came around and I needed to use up the mini watermelons that I purchased. From a video by Nita Gill I learned how to make a bowl out of watermelon that I thought would be fun to try.

It was easier to carve than I thought it would be, even though it did take some time. I really should think of these things ahead of time instead of just a couple of hours before dinner.
The hardest part is making the watermelon balls. For some reason I struggle with that so I let my daughter do it for me.
Another easy and useful carving is the strawberry rose.

I have made these roses a few times. Once to take to a dinner party and once to give as a gift to a friend that was ill. Sending a bouquet of roses with a yogurt dip in a bird bowl seemed like a healthier alternative to cookies or some other treat.
For the bouquet I used the bottom of a celery stock to hold the strawberry flowers in a glass vase.
I will definitly be doing a lot of strawberry roses to give away. They are easy and delicious. Mutita Edible Art one site that shows you how to carve the stawberry roses.
