One recipe that I get asked for a lot is my Whole Wheat Bread recipe. So I am very happy to add it to my organized recipes.
There is something so comforting and rewarding about the smell of bread coming out of the oven. I love to cut thick slices of warm bread and smother them in butter. And my children will tell you that I am not kidding about smothering them in butter (not my kids the pieces of bread).
I use a total of 7 ingredients. Wheat Flour,(I like to grind my own) honey, oil, applesauce, water, salt and yeast.

I use a total of 7 ingredients. Wheat Flour,(I like to grind my own) honey, oil, applesauce, water, salt and yeast.
Start by putting 5 cups of hot water, 1/3 cup oil, 1/3 cup applesauce, 2/3 cup honey and 2 Tbs. salt into a mixer. I use a Bosch mixer.
Next I add about 5 cups of flour. The mixture will look a little soupy.
At this point I add the yeast. I use instant yeast so I don't have to take the time to proof my yeast. It really seems to cut down the time of making bread and I love the results.
After adding the yeast you add the remaining flour. The amount of flour you add changes according to the humidity and temperature of the day. I never measure the flour exactly but go more by the look of the dough. You want the dough to be pulling away from the side of the bowl.

At this point you let the mixer do the work and let the dough knead for at least 10 min. I like to let it knead a little longer if I have time.
While the dough is kneading I get the pans prepared. I really like to use a cooking spray on my bread pans. You can use shortening and flour as well but I like the results from the spray better.

Pour a small amount of oil on your counter, spread it around and put your dough on it.
Divide the dough into four equal parts. Actually my pans are different sizes so I try to make two of my portions a little bigger than the other two.
I roll and fold the dough into a loaf shape and put them into the pans.
Let them rise. When my dough has risen to just over the edges of the pan I then turn my oven on to 350 and take out the top rack in my oven so the bread will bake in the middle of the oven.
When the oven is heated I place all four loaves in the oven at the same time.
Bake for 30 mins. and remove from pans immediately placing the loaves on cooling racks.
So I couldn't wait to take the picture before I took a bite. You can see the butter melting into the bread. yum!
Yes, fresh warm homemade bread will always bring a smile to my face.
