Spring is here and the weeding is already out of control.
But watermelons are on sale this week.
When you can buy a watermelon for $2.99 you just can't pass that up!
Having watermelons in the house means I get to have more carving fun.
(I bet you knew that was coming)
I could hardly wait to try my first big watermelon. Working on the mini ones was fun but I have been looking forward to the challenge of a big watermelon.
Here is my first attempt.

I could hardly wait to try my first big watermelon. Working on the mini ones was fun but I have been looking forward to the challenge of a big watermelon.
Here is my first attempt.
On the second watermelon I wanted to try a whole different approach so I cut off the bottom and then tried to see how fast I could carve a design. The carving below took a total of 6 mins.
It isn't as intricate as the first watermelon, but for a quick design I thought it was effective and fun to serve to my son for his lunch. (sorry for the blurry image. I couldn't figure out why all my photos were blurry until after my son had eaten the watermelon. Yes is was just a dirty lens)
The other half of the watermelon I spent a little more time and enjoyed getting more intricate.
While I was carving I asked my daughter if there was a point to all this carving I have been doing? Her reply was yes! "You have been taking them to people who are sick or just had babies etc." It has been fun to give away something a little out of the ordinary so I think I will carry on.
