I truly believe that even the smallest move towards being better organized has a great impact.
Take this cupboard for example. It is not the worst looking cupboard. It doesn't have things falling out of it when you open it. But it also doesn't make you smile when you look at it either.

The big containers on the top shelf were purchased to work in the pantry of our old house. And they worked great and at the time made me feel like I was organized and pulled together.
Now they are cumbersome and since they are on the top shelf it is really hard to see what is in them. My shelf is too deep to warrant just one row of containers yet the second row has to be turned on it's side.
I just knew I needed a new way to organize my pantry items to fit my new situation. (so we have lived here for seven years, these things take time)
After searching for containers that would fit both my cupboard and budget, I found just the containers to do the trick.

The New containers on the middle shelf are from IKEA. They are only $3.99 each which is a far better price than I could find anywhere else and I love the way they look and feel. My hand can grab the narrow container much better without straining my muscles.
I also put the old cereal containers on the top shelf. At first this seems counter-intuitive because we use them the most, but since I am the shortest in the family living at home right now at 5'10", it isn't hard to reach and they take up the whole shelf so they can be seen easily. They are also light in weight making them easier to lift down than the heavier legumes and grains.
I was really surprised with what a difference it has made to get these new containers and to switch up the items on the shelves.
Now when I open the cabinet I do smile to my self. Just seeing a small amount of order in a busy hectic day can really make a difference.
