Since this blog is about organizing every aspect of my life. I thought I would share with you the way I have decided to organize the
Francom Family Holidays and Traditions.
Like most families we have our own way of celebrating holidays and we also have created a few family traditions that the kids look forward to each year.
So why not get them organized?
At least that is what my second daughter Brittany suggested while we were getting ready for one of our traditions "The Francom Family Fun Fall Festival" also know as the Five F's.
Brittany suggested that we make a folder with a section for each holiday and tradition in it. Then in each section we could keep a record of who was in charge of what aspect of the tradition. We could include recipes and anything else that would make the next year that much easier to put together. We could also include things like what was really successful or what we would do differently the next year.
I loved this idea so right after the festival I started trying to organize it. You have to keep in mind that I wanted this record to be fun and unique.
Opening up a word document I started to make my record.

I wasn't happy at all with my first attempt of organizing this tradition. (Even though it was fun to learn how to take a picture and make it the background for my document.) I felt like I was trying too hard without getting any extra benefit. So what do you think I did? Exactly! I left it alone and went about my business.
As time rolled by I was nagged by the idea that I still hadn't organized this tradition. I really needed to get it done.
Between September and December there are seven major holidays and traditions that we celebrate.
Getting behind on organizing them just will not do.
I love it when you get that "Ah Hah" moment. Why not make a web site to keep this record in. I mean how easy is that? (If you had asked me that question two months ago I would have laughed in your face, not to be rude, but just because I had no idea.)
Now I do, and it is so easy!!!!! There are a number of free sites that help you build a website but since I use weebly for this blog, I have decided to use weebly for this project, as well, especially since it is really easy for me to create and keep track of as many websites as I would like to create.

Here is the home page for our traditions/holiday website.
I used our most recent family picture from my daughter Bethany's wedding as our header. (One important member of our family is missing. My son William who is in England for two years. I need to learn to photo shop him in.)
Under the Five F's I created a page for each event. Don't let this intimidate you. Weebly makes it very easy to know how to do this.

Clicking on any page you can now see a record of everything we did for that event. It was easy to add pictures as well.
This is a picture of the slide show I made of pictures from our caramel apple decorating contest.

You can click on the different thumbprints or let it change pictures on a time lapsed rotation.
It is also easy to create a photo gallery like this one of everyone playing the carnival games.

Using weebly to organize the record of our traditions has been easy and rewarding.
I like the idea of using a website to organize these traditions because.
The possibilities are really endless. The longer I sit here the more advantages I think of. The pages that I have used to record these traditions can be just plain pages or I can make them blog style so each year I can make a new post and keep it in order that way.
It would have been helpful when my daughter Sara asked for the caramel recipe we used for the apples. I could have told her to look on the website and we could have avoided the whole telling the recipe over the phone and writing it down on the first used envelope we see sort of thing.
If you want to use weebly to create a website let me know so I can send you an invitation and we can both get rewarded for it.
Thanks, Happy Organizing!
I like the idea of using a website to organize these traditions because.
- It is easy to use.
- I can edit it any time without having to reprint it and replace the old copy.
- If my computer dies or my house burns down (heaven forbid) I could still have access to this record.
- I can allow others to view it any time, as well as, edit it if I like.
- I can also create pages that I can hide from the view of others, like a list of Christmas gifts.
