I don't know about you but keeping my house pulled together and clutter free is not an easy task. It takes the creation of some new habits. I feel like if I turn my back for one minute, things start to accumulate everywhere.
One example: I purchased two MDF boards when I was organizing my husband's ties a few posts ago. I only used one, leaving another one to use for a future project. For some reason, which I can't even remember now, I brought the left over board into our main family room. Thinking I would be using it soon I propped it up against the wall. Almost a week later guess where it was. That is right. While I was cleaning up today I noticed that it was still propped against the wall.
I was just about to put it into my project room (really our guest bedroom) when I decided it would be better to just use it than to store it.
I had thought when I purchased it that I would use it to create cubbies to organize my son's shorts on the shelf in his closet. Why not do it know?
My husband had to work late so he couldn't help but after watching him make the system for his ties I thought I could do it.
I had to act fast because it would be getting dark soon so I ran outside and set up the table saw. What a beautiful fall day. Air crisp with the smell of possible snow.

If you remember the board was 4 feet by 2 feet. By cutting the board in half length wise (my line was a little wobbly) and then cutting each half into three pieces (that was easier) I had six equal squares.
I then used a quide on the saw to help me make the slots in each board. I couldn't believe how easy it was. Even if I was wearing sunglasses because I couldn't find the safety glasses.

Cutting three slots in each square just a little over half way through the boards I was then ready to put them together.
I wasn't able to just push all the pieces together without a little help. The slots where just a little too snug for that, so I took a scrap piece of the board and put in on top of the board I was trying to push in and used a hammer to complete the job.
I quickly put my tools away and took my new creation down to my son's closet.
I had measured it so well that at first I didn't think it was going to fix, but it fit great. Now I just needed to find some shorts to put in it to see how well it was going to work. All but one pair of his shorts were in the dirty clothes hamper so I threw a load of wash in.
When I got back upstairs this is what my backyard looked like. Dark! Just 45 mins after I had started this project.
I was so glad that I was able to get up the courage to do this project especially when I heard on the radio that it was supposed to snow the next day. I was even more pleased when just a few hours later it was snowing. With only a small window of opportunity to make this grid. I was grateful that I took it instead of procrastinating because my husband wasn't around to help me.

First load of wash is done and some of my son's shorts are put away (he really likes shorts).
When my son entered his room and saw the new grid his comment was

Mom! What are you doing?
I think he really likes it, don't you?
