Challah Bread
Ingredients:
1 Tb instant yeast
1 1/2 cup warm water
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup oil
2 eggs slightly beaten
yellow food coloring
5 to 5 1/2 cups flour
1 egg yolk with 1 Tb water
1 Tb sesame seed or poppy seeds
Directions.
In a large bowl combine water, salt, sugar, oil, and eggs.
Add 2 cups flour
Add instant yeast
Add remaining flour to make a stiff dough
Knead 5 to 20 min. till smooth
Let rise to double
Punch down and divide into four pieces
Roll the pieces into long strands and braid.
Brush with egg wash
Let rise until double
Brush with egg wash again
Bake at 335 degrees for 30-35 mins. For smaller loaves bake for 20-25 mins.
